Janae Weldon Earns CACC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honorable Mention
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior guard Janae Weldon of the Goldey-Beacom College women’s basketball team has earned honorable mention from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference for her performance during the week ending Dec. 5.
Weldon led the Lightning to a 1-0 week with a 19-point, three-assist performance in a 71-62 CACC-opening win at Philadelphia U. on Wed. night. She shot a very impressive 6-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range to help GBC win their third straight meeting with Phila U.
The 5-foot-5 guard out of Trenton, N.J. (Trenton Catholic HS) came into the season already the school’s all-time leader in three-point field goals with 120 and she is currently tied for the team lead this season with 14.
The sharp-shooting guard is closing in on the 1,000-point mark for her career as she has 948 points at Goldey-Beacom. She is currently averaging 12.3 points per-game.
She is also now second on the school’s career assist list with 226. She needs 20 more assists to tie Natasha Scott (’08) for the career record.
Weldon earned weekly honorable mention from the CACC twice last season on Jan. 25 and Mar. 8. She was also given All-CACC Honorable Mention at the conclusion of the season and named to the CACC All-Tournament team last year. In addition, she was named last year’s team offensive most valuable player.
