GSC Places 23 On Daktronics All-Region Football Team

Birmingham, AL—The Gulf South Conference placed 23 total players on the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Super Region 2 Football Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The GSC’s total was the most by any conference in the region and included 12 First Team selections, along with 11 on the Second Team.

Ten different GSC squads earned at least one honoree.  North Alabama led the way with five total players, led by a team-high four on the First Team.  Delta State matched UNA’s overall total thanks to five Second Teamers.  Valdosta State and Henderson State placed three apiece, highlighted VSU’s First Team trio.  Harding collected two members, while Arkansas-Monticello, Arkansas Tech, Ouachita Baptist, Southern Arkansas and West Alabama each added one standout.

The good news did not stop there for the GSC as it swept the Player of the Year laurels for the second consecutive season.  HSU quarterback Nick Hardesty took home the Region Offensive Player of the Year, while VSU linebacker Larry Dean was tabbed the Region Defensive Player of the Year.  Returning to the First Team was SAU defensive lineman Cedric Thornton.
