ERIE, Pa. - Afrim Latifi (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep) has earned another major post-season award after being named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer All-America second team.
Previously, Latifi was named the Daktronics NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Player of the Year and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Confernece (PSAC) Athlete of the Year. Latifi is Gannon's first All-American since Dag Magnusson won the honor in 1996.
Latifi finished as the PSAC statistical champion in points (35), points per game (1.94), goals (15) and goals per game (0.83). Latifi has been named to an all-conference team four straight seasons after being named three times to the All-PSAC team and once to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Confernce (GLIAC) team. He was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America lll-region first team and the Daktronics all-region second team in 2008. Latifi was also tabbed as GLIAC Freshman of the year in 2007.
Latifi finishes his stellar career as the all-time leader in game-winning goals by a large margin as his 18 goals are 12 better than second place. Latifi’s name also appears in several other career totals, finishing sixth in goals (44), ninth in points (102), fifth in matches started (64) and sixth in matches played (67).
The Gannon men’s soccer team finished the 2010 season with an 11-7 record. The Golden Knights earned four conference wins, representing the most for the school since joining the PSAC in 2008. Gannon put together an eight-game winning streak during the 2010 season and finished second in the PSAC in points (110) and goals (43).
