Gannon Women's Basketball Team Sits at No. 21 In Latest National Poll

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women’s basketball team moved up one spot to No. 21 in the latest USA Today ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Lady Knights made the jump despite a second straight idle week.

Delta State (Miss.) (8-0) remains the top-ranked team receiving 22 first place votes. Lander University (S.C.) (9-0) earned four first place votes and sits in second place. Fort Lewis (Colo.) (8-0), Washburn (Kan.) (8-0) and Arkansas Tech (7-1). completed the top five with Fort Lewis earning the final two first-place votes

Clayton State (Ga.) (9-0) followed by Northeastern State (Okla.) (7-0), Emporia State (Kan.) (7-1), Grand Valley (Mich.) (8-0) and Wayne State (Neb.) (7-1) rounded out the top 10.

Millersville (Pa.) (6-1) is the highest-ranked team from the Pennslyvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), ranking 17th. Gannon follows in the 21st spot with a 3-1 record. In addition, seven other Atlantic region teams received votes in the poll, but did not appear in the top 25.

Head coach Cleve Wright’s squad is in the middle of a 19-day lay-off from competition. Gannon’s game against Central State originally scheduled for Thursday, December 9 was rescheduled due to weather. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader and will precede the men’s Gannon-Central State game on Monday, February 7.

Gannon’s next game comes on Saturday, December 18 against Urbana. The women’s game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s game scheduled to start at 7:30.
