KEARNEY, Neb. – Four Chadron State wrestlers finished in the top six of their respective weight classes at the University of Nebraska Open Saturday in Kearney.
Chadron State’s veteran wrestlers did well at the tourney, which featured over 200 wrestlers from 16 different schools.
Senior Sam Udell won four matches, including two by pin, to finish third at 285 pounds. Udell’s main practice partner, sophomore RJ Boylan, also performed well at heavyweight, finishing in fifth place.
Jimmy Savala, another CSC senior, went 3-2 at 141 pounds and won two matches by major decision to claim fifth place.
Chris Leak, who finished fifth at 197 pounds, was the Eagles’ other placewinner.
Other CSC winners included Dustin Stodola at 133, Jake Lords at 149, Mikah Kadera at 157, Briston Brenton at 165, Trent Zempel at 174 and Jordan Debus at 184.
Former two-time national champion and current CSC graduate assistant coach Brett Hunter finished fourth at 197 pounds while competing unattached.
The Eagles will be back in action Jan. 1, 2011 at the Grand Canyon Duals in Phoenix, Ariz.
