Felician Pulls Away from Chowan, 67-57

Golden Falcons Tie School Record With Seventh Straight Victory
          
RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College tied a school record with its seventh consecutive victory when it defeated visiting Chowan University, 67-57, in non-conference women’s basketball action Friday night at Job Gymnasium. It was the first meeting between the schools.
          
Senior forward Quay Baskerville (Hartford, CT/Bulkeley) topped Felician (7-1) with 16 points and nine rebounds, including seven offensive boards. Golden Falcon junior Destiny Barnette (Paterson, NJ/PCTI) posted 14 points, and senior Tierra Cleaves (Paterson, NJ/John F. Kennedy) added 12 points and five assists.
           
The game was tied for the fifth and final time, 38-38, with 13 minutes, 14 seconds, remaining in the second half when Felician took control with a 15-3 run over the next six minutes. Chowan pulled to within 55-51 at the 3:24 mark, but Cleaves scored the next four points in a 6-0 Golden Falcon run to restore a 10-point edge with 1:32 to play.

Felician outscored the Hawks by 11 points at the foul line, sinking 26 of 39 attempts as compared to 15 for 21 for the visitors. Ransheda Jennings (Suffolk, VA/Kings Fork) led all scorers with 17 points and Talaya Lynch (Hampton, VA/Hampton) had 15 points and seven rebounds for Chowan (2-5). The Hawks jumped out to leads of 9-0 and 12-2, but trailed, 28-22, at halftime.

Felician first won seven games in a row in 1998-99, then matched that mark last season.
