CSUMB Rallies To Down Cal State East Bay, 67-60

SEASIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team shot over 47 percent from the field to defeat Cal State East Bay, 67-60, on Saturday night at the Kelp Bed.

"This is a big weekend for us," said head coach Rob Bishop. "We won two home games that we needed to win. It wasn't pretty but we got it done. It was a great team effort."

Senior Darroll Phillips led the Otters with 22 points, making six of his seven 3-pointers in the first half.  Sophomore Brandon Ward added 14 points while dishing out seven assists. Sophomore Davion Berry pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.  Senior Warren Freeman and Ian Hosford each contributed 13 points.

The Pioneers were led by senior Will Freedman's 17 points and 10 rebounds. Mark Samuels added 11 points and five assists.

"East Bay took Davion out of the scoring column and his unselfish play on offense helped Warren get his season high. Bishop said. "Davion played great defense and led the team in rebounding. We got scoring from both Darroll and Warren."

The Otters take to the road next week, traveling to Academy of Art on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
