Bloomsburg Football Names 2011 Captains

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University head football coach Danny Hale has announced that quarterback Pat Carey (Loyalsock, Loyalsock Twp.) and defensive back Oscar Rivera (Bethlehem, Liberty) have been named co-captains for the 2011 football season in voting by their teammates.

Carey, in his first year as a starter, was 135 of 254 for 2,026 yards with 24 touchdowns compared to just 10 interceptions. Carey’s passing yards for the season were the 10th best single season mark in school history, while his 24 TD passes were third most for a single season. During the year Carey had a streak of 10 consecutive games throwing at least two touchdown passes in a game.

Rivera, a two-time first team All-PSAC East selection, was third on the team in tackles with 53, 38 of them solo. He also had a team-high 16 pass breakups and made one interception. Rivera’s best game of the season came in an NCAA first round playoff game against California when he made 11 tackles, nine of them solo.

Danny Hale is happy with the team’s selection.

“Both men are outstanding character individuals and will be super representatives of Bloomsburg University football,” said Hale. “They’re both leaders on and off the field.”
