Wilson/CCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK — Cal State L.A. forward Liz Franco has been named the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 25-31, it was announced on Tuesday. 

Franco, a senior from Oceanside, Calif., had a big offensive weekend as she totaled nine points (4 goals, 1 assist) in a pair of wins over Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona.

During a 4-1 win over Cal State San Bernardino she had a goal and assist and followed that effort with a hat trick, including the game-winning goal in a 4-3 double overtime victory Cal Poly Pomona that clinched the No. 1 seed in this week's CCAA Tournament.

Cal State L.A. is next in action on Friday when it faces Cal State Stanislaus in the first round of the CCAA Tournament.

Wilson/CCAA Men's Soccer Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK —Sonoma State forward Taylor Varnadore has been named Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 25-31, it was announced on Tuesday. It marks the second time this season he has been honored.

Varnadore, a freshman from Sebastopol, Calif., had a key role in helping the Seawolves win a pair of road contests at San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay. He totaled six points (3 goals) after scoring an equalizing goal in a 2-1 win over San Francisco State and finding the net twice in a 3-1 victory over the Otters.

Sonoma State is next in action on Friday when it faces Cal State San Bernardino in an opening-round match of the CCAA Tournament in Turlock.
