No. 1 seed West Texas A&M defeated No. 3 seed Angelo State in four sets (25-21, 24-26, 25-16, 25-19) to claim their fifth straight Lone Star Conference Championship Saturday night at The Box in Canyon, Texas.
The Lady Buffs earn the conference’s automatic bid into next week’s NCAA Division II South Central Regional with the win, while improving to 27-8 overall. The Rambelles will await word from the NCAA Volleyball Committee to see if they are selected for an at large bid into the tournament. ASU finished the regular season at 19-12 overall.
Ashley Davis led the Lady Buffs with a career-high 19 kills, while Lauren Thedford followed with a career-high 18 kills. Erika Dupree tallied 41 assists and Teresa Dunn followed with 16. Thedford led all players with 18 digs as she posted her 14th double-double of the season. Dupree recorded 13 digs as well and recorded her 22nd double-double of the season.
Maddie Huth led the Rambelles with 13 kills on the night and Alex Woosley led all players with 42 assists. Caroline Cleveland finished the match with a team-high 17 digs.
