UWF REMAINS NO. 4 IN FINAL REGULAR SEASON NCAA REGIONAL RANKING

Argos Fighting for NCAA Postseason Berth

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – In the final regular season NCAA Division II regional rankings, the West Florida men’s soccer team remained at No. 4.  With one more week of play remaining before the championship selections are announced on Monday, Nov. 8. the Argonauts will be fighting for an NCAA postseason berth as well as a Gulf South Conference championship at the GSC Tournament this weekend.

The Argonauts are 8-4-1 in regional play, and they will have at least one, and possibly two, more regional contests at the GSC Tournament this weekend.  Rollins is ranked No. 1 with an in-region record of 9-1-1, followed by Barry (8-2-3) at No. 2 and Tampa (8-5-1) at No. 3.  Florida Tech (6-5-2) trails UWF at No. 5, and Saint Leo (6-5-0) rounds out the poll at No. 6.

Four NCAA berths are on the line for the South Region this week, and there are no automatic qualifiers for conference champions in Division II men’s soccer.  The Sunshine State Conference Tournament kicks off in quarterfinal action at campus sites today, and Barry will host the semifinals and finals for the SSC over the weekend.  UWF and the Pensacola Sports Association will host the GSC Tournament this weekend at Brosnaham Park, starting on Friday, Nov. 5.

The Argonauts will play either Alabama-Huntsville or Harding in the first round of the GSC Tournament at 7 p.m. Friday night, depending on the results of tonight’s match between Christian Brothers and Harding.  For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
