After the Tritons took an 8-7 lead six minutes into the contest on a pair of Kelly Mitchell three-pointers, the Sycramores out-scored UMSL, 33-10, to take a 41-18 lead into halftime and never looked back.
UMSL was held to just 35.2 percent shooting and was forced into 23 turnovers. Indiana State connected on 52.7 percent of its shots from the field and owned a 45-31 rebounding advantage.
Senior Kelly Carter scored 19 points to pace UMSL, which opens its 37th season of intercollegiate play next Friday, against Harris-Stowe in the Lincoln University Classic at 4 p.m. Carter hit 8-of-15 shots from the field and while also collecting four steals. Mitchell chipped in 10 points and pulled down five rebounds.
Senior Kelcy Hulbert pulled down eight rebounds, including five on the offensive end, and dished out three assists, while junior Kiki Robinson and freshman Kaitlin Sweatman each came off the bench to grab six rebounds.
