Two UCO players earn LSC volleyball honors

RICHARDSON, Texas (Nov. 9) – Two Central Oklahoma volleyball players were recognized by the Lone Star Conference office Tuesday when Zuela Adom was named Offensive Player of the Week and Fleming Smurthwaite Setter of the Week.

The duo led the Bronchos to a pair of clutch regular season-ending wins last week that clinched a berth in the upcoming LSC Tournament.  UCO, 20-10 on the year, will be the sixth seed and will take on No. 3 Angelo State at 12 p.m. Thursday in a first-round match in Canyon, Texas.

Adom hit .338 with 29 kills and just seven errors in 65 attacks in the two wins.  The senior outside hitter from Euless, Texas hit .400 with 14 kills in a three-set sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma and followed that with a 15-kill effort in a three-set rout of East Central while adding four assisted blocks.

Smurthwaite dished out 72 assists in the two matches while adding seven kills and four assisted blocks.  The freshman setter from Decatur, Texas had 33 assists, five kills, three aces and two assisted blocks against SOSU before collecting 39 assists, two kills and two assisted blocks in the ECU sweep.
