Three Lopers Named AVCA All-American

Kearney, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney senior volleyball players Katlyn Heiserman, Cola Svec and Jeri Walkowiak have been named to the 2010 AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division II All-American team.

The team was released today (Nov. 29th) and is selected by a panel of nine head coaches from around the country.

Walkowiak (Grand Island) made the first-team with Svec (Elkhorn) making the second-team and Heiserman (Manchester, Ia.) named honorable mention.  Walkowiak is just the second Loper, following fellow middle Erin Gudmundson ('05), to earn AVCA first-team honors twice in a career. She also was tabbed first-team in 2008.

Both Svec (2008 h.m.) and Walkowiak earn their second AVCA All-American honor with Heiserman making it for the first time.

Overall, 74 players were tabbed; 14 on the first, second and third teams and another 32 named honorable mention. Besides the Lopers chosen, the only other RMAC player to make the squad was Metro State junior outside hitter Bri Morley (h.m.).

Setter Amanda Konetchy of Concordia-St. Paul was named the National Freshman of the Year; she and her teammates swept the Lopers in the Central Regional final. The Elite 8 begins Thursday in Louisville, Ky., with CSP aiming for a fourth straight national title.

The National Player of the Year will be announced December 1st.
