Tafunai Spikes Volleyball Over Carson-Newman

Lions end conference play on three-match winning streak

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.) posted a season-high 18 kills for the Mars Hill volleyball team which defeated Carson-Newman in four sets. The Lions, which finished off conference play winning three-straight matches, won by scores of 25-18, 29-27, 19-25 and 27-25 to improve to 11-11 overall, 7-11 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Eagles fall to 16-9 overall, 8-8 in the league.
Laura Ann Huskey (Hendersonville, N.C.) and Jenna Luke (Mishawaka, Ind.) each posted 12 kills for Mars Hill. Defensively, Maggie Murphy (Richmond, Va.) had a team-high 19 digs.

Hillary Gambrell (Pickens, S.C.) followed up with 18 digs. Becca Smith (Candler, N.C.) dished out 44 assists.

Carly Mozgai registered a match-high 25 kills for Carson-Newman. Nikki James had 18 kills. Courtney Lawson came up with a double-double (10 digs, 26 assists).

Angelle Hayes posted 24 digs. Rachael Bowlin had 15 digs, while Lara McDonald had 23 assists.

The Lions had eight service aces compared to only four for the Eagles. Carson-Newman had six service errors compared to only two for Mars Hill.

The Lions will host Montreat on Thursday. The match from Stanford Arena is set to begin at 7 p.m.
