MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The 13th-ranked University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (4-0) used an explosive second-half to capture a win for the second-straight game as the Falcons downed the University of West Florida (1-5), 67-50 while out-scoring the Argos 34-18 in the second period. The Falcons were led by junior DeMarcus Catchings (Arlington, Texas/Arlington) who scored 14 points coming off the bench while hitting 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

Senior Cecil Coleman (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech) added 13 points and eight boards while junior Tyrell Coleman (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown) scored 12 points. Senior Ronald Severtsgaard (East Moline, Ill./United Township) led the team in rebounding with nine boards while scoring two points. Sophomore Jonas Brown (Tifton, Ga./Tift County) scored nine points while grabbing five boards.

The Falcons out-rebounded the Argos 43-37 and the Falcon bench outscored the Argo bench 34-17.

The first half was a tight battle despite the Falcons leading almost the entire period. Up by three with 6:50 to play in the period the Falcons went on an 8-0 run sparked by a pair of Coleman three-pointers. UM continued to hold a double-digit margin until the Argos went on a 9-1 run to end the half and cut the Falcons lead to just one entering the locker room. The Falcons led 33-32 as time expired in the first half.

The Argos never were able to capture the lead in the early part of the second half but they did tie the game with a three-pointer at the 17:08 mark. From that point on the Falcons went on a 15-2 run with four different players contributing to the scoring. UM led the rest of the half by double-digit points as the Argos were only able to get to within 11 the rest of the way.

The Falcons will return to action Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m. as they travel to Lander University for their first Peach Belt Conference contest.
