Patriot runners at PBC Championships on Saturday

FLORENCE, S.C. – Both the Francis Marion University men’s and women’s cross country teams will run in the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Championships, Saturday morning (Nov. 6) at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga.

The men’s 8,000-meter race will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the women’s 6,000-meter race at 9:45 a.m.  Admission is free.

Sophomore Ian Wallace has led the Patriot men in all five meets this fall.  The Fort Mill native has posted a pair of Top-20 finishes including a personal-best 8K time of 28:21 last month at the Royal Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte.

Sophomore Justin Albertson has been the second FMU finisher in four of the five races.  The remainder of the squad includes seniors Ben Miller and Jerry Roth, junior Ryan Woloszyn, and freshman Michael Bigelow.

Freshman Whitney Wagner has paced the FMU women in all five races in 2010.  The Cullowhee, N.C., native owns three Top-25 finishes.  Freshman LaMeisha Jackson has been the second Patriot runner in four of the five meets.  The rest of the Patriot team includes senior Amanda Booker, junior Samantha Smith, and freshmen London Barnhill and Charity Hawkins.

The Peach Belt Conference features five women’s teams ranked in the most recent NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Poll, and four regionally ranked men’s programs.
