Otters Run To Victory Over Hawaii Pacific, 71-49

SEASIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball began the 2010-11 season with a 71-49 victory over Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday night at the Kelp Bed.

With seven players scoring seven or more points, junior Erika Ward scored a team-high nine points while pulling down four rebounds.  Seniors Julie Heurung and LaShawn Johnson along with junior Shonetta Crain-Williams added eight points each.  Junior Kris King and Heurung also recorded four rebounds.  Junior Amanda Padilla dished out a team-high five assists.

The Otters were impressive at the free throw line, going 14-for-16 for a 87.6 percentage.  CSUMB shot 41.3 from field while holding HPU to a 32.1 percentage.

The teams were even on the boards at 30 apiece.

The Sea Warriors were led by Jazzmin Awa-Williams's 12 points and Skye Savini's 11 points.

The Otters travel to the Bay Area this weekend to compete in the Notre Dame de Namur Tournament. They open against NDNU on Friday at 7 p.m.
