Baseball Hosts Halloween on the Hill

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – On a night filled with ghosts, goblins and ghouls, Georgia College baseball decided to host their own kind of Halloween party. This past Friday the Bobcat baseball team and head coach Tom Carty partnered up with Georgia College Health Education to host “Halloween on the Hill.”

“This was a great day for us and the kids,” said Carty. “It was good getting the community involved. We had great support. The players did an awesome job with their costumes and to make it a fun day for everyone. Rachel Sullivan and Health Services were great and I would like to extend a thank you to them for coming out to help us with this event.”

Held at GC's John Kurtz Field, the event gave local costumed youngsters a spooky and fun chance to meet and greet with the baseball team while getting healthy treats. As an extra fun attraction, the Bobcat baseball team held a brief bone-chilling intersquad scrimmage with all members of the 2010 Division II College World Series participants dressed in their own Halloween costumes.

The youngsters were able to meet the players and receive autographs after the game, while also serving as judges to determine the best costume worn by a Bobcat baseball player. The young trick or treaters were also able to go on the field and take pictures with their favorite dressed up baseball player.

The winner of the costume contest was junior catcher Benton Yaun (Marietta, Ga.) and he was dressed as an Avatar. Senior pitcher Jason Nicholas (Wright City, Mo.) came in second place dressed up as grapes.
