Lynn Women’s Hoops Can’t Sink Norse

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s basketball team dropped its season opener 53-43 to Northern Kentucky on Friday night.  Quanisha Dixon and Marquis Lee led the Fighting Knights in scoring, with 12 points, in defeat.

Defense was the name of the game for much of the first half as LU headed to the locker room trailing just 21-15.  The Blue & White managed to take a 12-5 lead eight minutes into play following strong inside/outside play.  Tashina Bailey and Chelsea Patterson managed points in the paint while Dixon and Lee hit shots from the perimeter.

Northern Kentucky (1-0) evened things up minutes later but Karolina Bazua knocked down the open three to put LU ahead 15-12.  The Norse, though, locked down the Knights and held them without a field goal in 10 attempts over the final 7:24.

Sadie Bowling and Kendra Caldwell put NKU on top by 12 with a 9-2 run to start the second period of play.  The Knights managed to cut the deficit to three when Dixon hit a running jumper in the paint but Jamie Hamlet answered back with a timely three-pointer to make it 33-27.

Lynn managed to get to within two points on two more occasions but the Norce respond immediately with shots from downtown.  Each team managed to shoot well over 40% in the second half after hitting just over 20% in the opening stanza.

Despite the loss, LU managed to force 20 turnovers and grab 12 steals, led by Dixon who had four swipes.

The Fighting Knights return to action on Tuesday, November 16, at 5:30 p.m. when they host Florida Memorial.  Fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.LynnFightingKnights.com and selecting “Game Central.”
