Lewis At Wayne State Game Notes

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team begins in-region play on Thursday (Nov. 18) night, as the Flyers (2-1) head to Detroit, Mich., to square off with Wayne State (1-0) for a 7 p.m. (EST) tip-off at the Matthaei Center

Head Coaches: Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost is in his fifth season at the helm of the Flyers and has a record of 70-49 (.588). In 13 seasons of coaching, Trost owns a mark of 223-135 (.623). Wayne State head coach David Greer, who is now in his tenth season as the Warriors' skipper, is 128-121 (.514).

Last Time We Met: Lewis sophomore Chris McClellan scored all 15 of his points in the second-half to help the Flyers to the 61-49 in-region win over Wayne State on Dec. 12, 2009. Lewis held Wayne State to a 30.2% (19-for-63) shooting performance.

Last Time Out: Lewis junior forward Jeron Lee came off the bench and knocked down four three-pointers - all in the second half - to finish with a game-high 16 points and propel the Flyers to the 61-51 come-from-behind win over Dixie State on Sunday (Nov. 14).

Dead Eye: McClellan currently sits as Lewis' all-time leader in free throw percentage, knocking down 89.9% (116-for-129) of his attempts. The Buffalo Grove, Ill., native has converted his last 16 attempts.

Welcome Back: Junior forward Lonnie Lawrence returns to the Lewis line-up after missing the entire 2009-10 campaign after tearing his left anterior cruciate ligament for the second time in his career.

Scoring In Bunches: In Lewis' 84-70 come-from-behind win over Alaska-Anchorage on Saturday (Nov. 13), the Flyers scored 49 points in the second half to secure the victory. That was the most points scored in a half by a Flyer team since January 17, 2009, as Lewis scored 54 second-half points on their way to the 101-82 victory over UW-Parkside.

Defensive Clamps: In Lewis' 61-51 victory over Dixie State on Sunday (Nov. 14), the Flyers held the Red Storm to 15 field goals. That is the fewest amount of baskets scored by a Lewis opponent since the Flyers limited Robert Morris (Springfield) to 12 field goals in a 101-37 win on December 29, 2008.

1,000-Point Club: Senior guard Dennis Thomas needs 50 points to reach 1,000 tallies for his career.

1,000 Victories: Lewis needs seven more victories to reach the program's 1,000th all-time win.

Good Genes: Sophomore forward Matt Toth chose a different athletic path than his father Tom. Tom Toth played five years in the National Football League, including starting 12 games at right guard for Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins in 1987.

New Number: Sophomore guard David Bryant has changed his number from 14 to 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.

Block Party: Junior center Marty Strus needs 36 blocks this season to break the career-record of 140 set by Austin Real (2000-04). In each of his first two seasons, Strus has broken the single-season record for blocks with 54 in 2009-10 and 50 in 2008-09.

Trost vs. GLIAC: Since taking over the Lewis men's basketball team in 2006, Trost has collected an impressive mark of 12-3 against GLIAC opponents.

Novembers To Remember: Trost has an overall record of 15-4 (.789) n the month of November as the Lewis head coach.

Action Jackson: Trost announced on Tuesday (Nov. 16) that he has signed Riverside-Brookfield guard Ryan Jackson to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Flyers beginning in 2011. As a junior, Jackson averaged 16 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists.
