Latshaw-McCarthy Field to Serve As New Home for Griffin Baseball

Philadelphia, PA– Leaving Hostelley Field for closer pastures, Chestnut Hill College has signed an agreement with the Municipality of Norristown for use Elmwood Park's Latshaw-McCarthy Field this season. The agreement secures the field for the 2011 season with plans to continue a working relationship in the future.

As part of the agreement, the Latshaw-McCarthy complex will undergo some renovations. The infield will be re-grated and edged, while the bullpens and warning track will be refurbished to their original quality. The playing surface is 330 feet down the lines, 383 feet to the power allies in left and right field, and 393 to straight-away centerfield. The complex also features a large press box/concession stand, major league size dugouts, a fully electronic scoreboard, and seating for approximately 1,000 fans.

Latshaw-McCarthy Field was formerly the long-standing home for Saint Joseph's University’s baseball program. Built in 1938, the field is named to recognize Dan Latshaw, a player who died at the site in 1940, and Red McCarthy, the late sports editor of the Norristown Times Herald. The Elmwood Park complex includes numerous park and recreation facilities, including the Elmwood Park Zoo. The road located behind the left field fence is named after Major League Baseball Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda, a native of Norristown, Pennsylvania.
