Junior Approached Triple-Double in UWF Debut
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of West Florida guard Jade Howard has been named Gulf South Conference East Division Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the Conference office announced today. Howard is the first player to win the award during the 2010-11 season.
The Salyersville, Ky., native led UWF to an 84-49 victory on November 12 in her regular season Argonaut debut. The junior was on pace for a triple-double before being removed from the game after the Argos had opened up a big lead. Howard tallied 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists in just 20 minutes of court time.
Howard is the second current Argonaut to win a GSC weekly award. Senior forward Jessica Young was named GSC East Player of the Week during the 2008-09 season.
Christian Brothers junior forward Caitlin House was named GSC West Player of the Week after averaging 23.5 points per game in two CBU wins.
Howard and the Argonauts open their home schedule on Friday night when they host Allen University as part of the UWF Tip-off Classic. Tip time is scheduled for 6 pm.
