Grizzly mat-men to square off in Green & Black dual

Kelly-Ortega bout to highlight Wednesday night's action

ALAMOSA, Colo.- San Luis Valley wrestling fans will have a chance to get their first chance to view the new-look Adams State College Grizzlies when the squad will host their annual Green & Black Intrasquad Dual, Wednesday night in Plachy Hall.  Action will begin at 7 p.m. and admission is free.

Fans that cannot make it in person, can still view the dual online with a single-event or all-access subscription pass to AmericaOne (formerly B2 Networks) or by following the Grizzlies' on Twitter.

Grizzly head coach Jason Ramstetter, entering his 12th year with the Grizzlies, has more questions than answers heading into the 2010-11 season that will begin for earnest Saturday at the Wyoming Cowboy Open and is expecting that Wednesday's dual will help him answer some of those questions.

With just two starters back from last year's squad that placed 13th at the NCAA Division II National Championships, there are plenty of lineup spots up for grabs once the invitational tournament and dual meet portions of his team's schedule begin in late December and January, respectively.  Ramstetter's Grizzlies can help stake their claim to those with wins on Wednesday and in the team's first three open tournaments over the next month.

A tentative slate of eight matches has been set for Wednesday night's competition and features a 149-pound tilt between sophomores Daniel Kelly (Parker, Colo.) and Max Ortega (Rio Rancho, N.M.).

Kelly, one of the two returning starters (Josh Hensley (Alamosa, Colo.)), is touted to wrestle for the Green team which will be guided by Ramstetter and assistant coach Arsenia Barksdale, who completed his 4-team All-American career in 2010.  Kelly, who was pulled out of redshirt mid-season in 2009-10, posted a 20-8 record a year ago.

Ortega was a 5-time high school state champion while competing at Rio Rancho High School, winning a title every year since eighth grade.  He then took his talents to Division I University of Indiana and competed for the Big Ten Conference's Hoosiers last year, posting a 19-11 mark with eight wins coming by   Ortega is slated to wrestle for the Black Team, coached by Kyle and Sand and Joey Deaguero, both multiple-time All-Americans.

Another interesting match-up should come at 133 pounds between the Green team's Corey Johnson (Newcastle, Calif.) and the Black team's Michael Lee (Albuquerque, N.M.), a battle that is for a starting spot according to Ramstetter.  Both redshirt freshmen redshirted last year.

A listing of the entire slate of matches, subject to change, is listed below.
