ASU Men's Golf Ninth At Gifford

Norlander in fourth place after 2-over 73

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State posted a 10-over 365 Tuesday during the second round of the Gifford Collegiate Championship at CordeValle Resort in San Martin, Calif.

Senior Olle Bengtsson and junior Patrick Reed paced the Jaguars with a pair of 1-over 72’s. Henrik Norlander and Carter Newman added respective 2-over 73’s and Mitch Krywulycz and Taylor Floyd signed for a pair of 75’s. Newman is tied for 48th at 152 (+10), while Bengtsson, Krywulycz and Reed are part of a six-way tie for 56th at 153 (+11) and Floyd is 62nd at 154 (+12).

At 1-under 141, Norlander is in fourth place, five shots back of UCLA’s Patrick Cantlay, who booked a 2-under 69 and owns a one-stroke lead over Stanford’s David Chung. Sihwan Kim of Stanford is alone in third, three shots off the pace.

Stanford combined for a 7-under 348 and opened up an 11-shot advantage on tourney host UCLA. Southern California shot a 4-under 351 and moved into third, while Northwestern and Washington are fourth and fifth, respectively.

Tourney host UCLA combined for a 367 (+12), good for a one-stroke lead over Stanford. Washington is third, three shots back while Northwestern is fourth and Oregon is fifth, 10 shots in front of the Jags.

The three-day, 54-hole event, renamed in 2009 to honor UCLA supporter and Bay-area philanthropist Jack Gifford, features a five-out-of-six scores format. The venue is the par-72, 7,169-yard CordeValle Country Club (www.cordevalle.com), which recently hosted the PGA Tour’s Frys.com Open won by Rocco Mediate.
