ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon volleyball team landed a pair of sophomores on the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division teams Tuesday afternoon. Lauren Sazama (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) was named to the first team while Morgan Reineke (New Knoxville, Ohio/New Knoxville) earned a spot on the second team.
After earning second-team honors last season, Sazama was named to the first team this season. The sophomore is second this season in the PSAC and 13th in the country in aces per set (0.61). Sazama was also second in the PSAC in kills per set (3.70). She is leading the Lady Knights in kills (375) and second on the team in digs (283) this season. Her 61 service aces is the 10th highest single-season total in school history.
Reineke is on the second team this season after earning first-team honors in 2009. The sophomore has played in 99 of Gannon’s 105 sets so far this season and is fifth in the PSAC in kills per set (3.40). Reineke has recorded 335 kills, second most on the team. She is third on the team in digs (202), fourth in total blocks (43) and fifth in aces (15)
Gannon has The Lady Knights finished fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division, before being eliminated by Clarion in the conference quarterfinals. The squad has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1995, which is also the last time the program has qualified for consecutive national tournaments.
The Lady Knights will enter this weekend’s NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional as the fifth seed and will face fourth-seeded Wheeling Jesuit (32-4) on Friday, November 19 at 12 noon.
