Gannon's Latifi Named PSAC Men's Soccer Athlete of the Year; Chate and Pike Earn Second Team Honors

ERIE, Pa. - Afrim Latifi (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep) has been named the 2010 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Year as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Evan Chate (Vendays-Montalivet, France / Odilon Redon) and Sean Pike (Liverpool, England / Range) both garnered All-PSAC second-team honors as midfielders

Latifi, who was also named to the PSAC first-team as a forward, finished as the PSAC statistical champion in points (35), points per game (1.94) goals (15) and goals per game (0.83). Latifi has been named to an all-conference team four straight seasons after being named three times to the All-PSAC team and once to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Team. Latifi was also tabbed GLIAC Freshman of the year in 2007.

Latifi finishes his stellar career as the all-time leader in game-winning goals by a large margin as his 18 goals are 12 better than second place. Latifi’s name also appears in several other career totals finishing sixth in goals (44), ninth in points (102), fifth in matches started (64) and sixth in matches played (6th).

Chate earned All-PSAC second-team honors after finishing second on the team in points (16) and assists (4). Chate started 14 games for the Golden Knights before his season was cut short due to injury. Chate finished tied for fifth in the conference in game-winning goals with three.

Pike was also named to the All-PSAC second team. The sophomore started all 18 game this season recording five points on one goal and three assists.

The Gannon men’s soccer team finished the 2010 season with an 11-7 record. The Golden Knights earned four wins in conference, representing the most for the school since joining the PSAC in 2008. Gannon put together an eight-game winning streak during the 2010 season and finished second in the PSAC in points (110) and goals (43).
