Gaffney named RMAC / Baden Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines’ Brecca Gaffney has been selected as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference / Baden Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week as announced today by the RMAC.

Gaffney, a senior 6’1” forward from Greeley, Colo. (Northridge H.S.), helped CSM to a pair of victories over Tampa (64-63) and Pitt – Johnstown (74-70) last weekend. In two games, Gaffney recorded a pair of double-doubles averaging 21 points and 13 rebounds per game. Gaffney shot 68.2 percent from the field (15-of-22) in those two games while averaging three assists, a block and a steal.

Gaffney was 7-of-8 from the field with 20 points and 12 boards against Tampa. Against Pitt – Johnstown, Gaffney shot 57.1 percent (8-of-14) scoring 22 points and collecting a season-high 14 rebounds. Gaffney pulled down 26 total rebounds in two games and 17 of those rebounds were defensive rebounds.

A Pre-Season All-RMAC selection, Gaffney leads the RMAC in rebounding (9.3), ranks third in blocked shots (tied – 1.3) and fourth in scoring (16.0). Gaffney currently has 734 career rebounds at Mines which ranks her third on the career rebounding list.

The Orediggers (3-1 overall) will closeout the non-conference portion of their schedule with a game at Oklahoma Panhandle State tonight, Monday, Nov. 29th at 5:00 pm. Mines will begin RMAC play on Saturday, Dec. 4th at home against Colorado Christian at 6:00 pm.
