Franklin Pierce Baseball Falls on Saturday in Dominican Republic, Attends Winter League Game

SANTANA HITS TWO-RUN DOUBLE, INGUI DRIVES HOME RUN

BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic (November 27, 2010) -- The Franklin Pierce University baseball team fell to the Dominican affiliate of the Boston Red Sox on Saturday in the Dominican Republic. Later in the day, the team took in a few innings of a Dominican Winter League contest. On Sunday, the Ravens will donate baseball equipment to local kids and conduct a youth clinic before departing for the trip back to Rindge.

In the game against the Red Sox affiliate, junior right fielder Osvaldo Santana (Lynn, Mass.), originally from the Dominican Republic himself, pulled a two-run double down the third-base line. Also in the game, senior designated hitter Derek Ingui (Sterling, Mass.) drove in a run with a groundout and sophomore center fielder Nick LaCroix (Grafton, Mass.) stole third base and scored on an ensuing wild throw from the catcher. Meanwhile, junior right-hander T.J. Ferguson (Westmoreland, N.H.) threw 1.2 innings of solid relief out of the bullpen.

Later in the evening, the team attended a Dominican Winter League game. The league provides Minor and Major League Baseball players in America a chance to hone their skills over the off-season.
