Women's basketball hosts Ferris State on Tuesday followed by the UIndy Classic on Friday and Saturday and the men's basketball team hosts Benedictine in the home opener Tuesday followed by an in-region game at Hillsdale on Saturday; highlighting the holiday weekend in Lewis Athletics.
Women’s Volleyball: The women’s volleyball team advanced to the round of 32 of the NCAA Division II tournament over the weekend, but fell to No. 12 Grand Valley State, 3-1 on Saturday (Nov. 20) evening. The Flyers defeated Missouri-St. Louis in the opening round. Senior Lauren Seliga ended a great career with 14 kills and 14 digs in the match against Grand Valley. Setter Rachel Ruedi finished her career with a double-double of 36 assists and 14 digs with six kills.
Men’s Basketball: The men’s basketball team dropped a pair of in-region games last week losing 79-66 to Wayne State on Thursday (Nov. 18) and 64-61 to Ferris State on Saturday (Nov. 20) afternoon. Senior Dennis Thomas Jr. scored a season-best 23 points against Wayne State, dropping four three-pointers. Junior Jeron Lee had 18 points for Lewis in the loss to Ferris State. The Flyers host Benedictine on Tuesday (Nov. 23) evening before heading up to Hillsdale on Saturday (Nov. 27) for a 3 PM tip-off.
Women’s Basketball: Led by 20 points from senior Jenny Turpel, the women’s basketball team picked up an in-region victory over Wayne State, 77-64 on Friday (Nov. 19) evening. Seven different players saw at least 20+ minutes of action. Senior Carol Kruckman scored a career-high 14 points and tied her career-best with six rebounds. Sophomore Labrenthia Murdock scored 13 points off the bench. The Flyers return to action on Tuesday as they welcome Ferris State to Neil Carey Arena for a 5:30 PM tip-off.
Men’s Cross Country: Freshman Andrew McLain earned All-Midwest Region honors at the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Nov. 20), finishing 12th in the 10K race with a time of 31:43.07. The Flyers finished ninth as a team with 281 points. Junior Scott Tanis was the second Flyer to cross the finish line, as he placed 33rd overall with a time of 32:26.32.
Women’s Cross Country: Senior Kathryn Hague looks to repeat as an All-American as she qualified for the NCAA National Championships on Dec. 4th. Hague earned All-Region honors at the Division II Midwest Region Cross Country Championships, finishing ninth overall in the 6K race in 21:44.28. Lewis finished 13th as a team with 356 points. Sophomore Amy Clawson placed 44th overall with a time of 22:57.02.
Swimming: Senior Kevin Coates led the way for the men’s swimming team has he won four events over the weekend in a dual meet with Truman State. The Lewis men won by an overall score of 179-165 while the Lewis women fell 220-126. The Flyers won both 400 freestyle relays as the men won in 3:15. 54 and the women won in 2:16.98. Freshman Caitlyn Scheirer won both the 400 IM (4:44.15) and the 200 butterfly (1:58.46) on Saturday morning.
Men’s Volleyball: The men’s volleyball team ended their preseason schedule going 5-0 at a tournament held in Vernon Hills, Ill.
