Flagler welcomes North Georgia to Saints FIeld for the second occasion this season.
The third-seeded Flagler College men’s soccer team, fresh off five-consecutive wins to close the regular season, will host the sixth-seeded North Georgia College and State University in the Peach Belt Conference quarterfinal on Nov. 2 at Saints Field at 7 p.m.
Flagler finished its regular season 12-3-1 overall and 6-2-0 in the conference. North Georgia went 8-5-4 overall and 2-4-2 in the Peach Belt.
It will be the second meeting between the two schools this season. Flagler edged NGCSU 1-0 in overtime on Oct. 23 when Will Frandsen booted home his own blocked shot for the game winner. Goalkeeper Matt Gilman recorded his seventh shutout as he collected four saves. Kristopher Alonzo denied six shots for North Georgia.
Flagler out-shot North Georgia 28-16 and held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. NGCSU held a slight edge in fouls (19-17).
Zach Shanahan leads Flagler with seven goals this year. He has tallied more goals than any other freshman in the Peach Belt. Mack Hough has added six goals while Conor Killeen has tallied a team-high four assists. Five players have scored at least three goals for Flagler. Gilman ranks 14th in Division II in save percentage (.841) and goals against average (.742).
NGCSU tied UNC Pembroke 0-0 in double overtime in its last regular season match. Gray Phelps has scored a team-high five goals. Preseason all-conference selection Ben Chedgy has added four goals while Mikki Bozickovic and Caleb Turner are tied for the team lead with three assists. Goalkeeper Rade Tanaskovic is fourth in the Peach Belt in GAA (1.03) and is seventh in save percentage (.750). He did not play against Flagler back on Oct. 23.
