Farmer’s Double-Double Leads UIS

SPRINGFIELD – Sophomore Chigozie Umeadi’s team-high 16 points and senior Brandon Farmer’s 15 points and 10 rebound performance paced the Illinois-Springfield men’s basketball team past Robert Morris Monday night, 75-67.

A game opening 19-7 run and a stout defensive effort in the first half helped give UIS a halftime lead of 35-28. The Prairie Stars scored 19 points off of RMU turnovers and also added 16 points on second chance opportunities.

UIS on the defensive side forced 15 turnovers and held the Eagles to just 10-of-25 shooting from the floor. The offensive effort, meanwhile, was balanced, as the Prairie Stars had four score five or more points during the opening 20 minutes.

The Prairie Stars after halftime held a double digit lead for most the period, which includes an 11 point advantage with 13:08 to play. RMU, meanwhile, went on a 13-2 run and tied the game with 10:25 to play.

UIS, however would go up eight just a few minutes later, but with just 3:01 to play RMU took a one point lead. The Prairie Stars though would then close the contest by going on a 9-0 run and held RMU to 0-for-4 shooting from the field during the final minutes.

For Farmer it was his first career double-double and he also grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds. Also for UIS, senior Steffen Spinks tied his career-high with 11 points, while freshman Brandon Snowden pulled down a season-high seven rebounds.

Saturday will be the next action for UIS, as it travels to Lincoln (Mo.) for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
