Enaire, No. 2 River Hawks Silence Bentley, 3-0

Squad Records 18th Straight Win and 15th Shutout of the Year

LOWELL (Nov. 2, 2010) – Senior forward Katie Enaire (Amesbury, Mass.) tallied a pair of goals as the No. 2 UMass Lowell field hockey team captured its 18th consecutive victory and 15th shutout of the year in a 3-0 decision against the Bentley University Falcons in conference play on Tuesday evening in Waltham.

After a scoreless first half, the River Hawks (18-0, 8-0 NE-10) bombarded the Bentley (6-11, 2-6 NE-10) cage during a 12 minute span at the start of the second beginning with Enaire netting her first of the night, the eventual game-winner, just 1:31 into the half.  The reverse sweep from six yards out was the forward’s 20th goal of the year.

Senior Liz Day (North Andover, Mass.) followed up with a goal just under 10 minutes into the frame.  The tally, Day’s 12th of the year, came off a penalty corner and was assisted by classmate and Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Rachel McCarthy (Reading, Mass.), who inbounded the ball.  McCarthy sent the ball in to Macy, who found Day for a 14-yard drive to the back of the cage, putting UMass Lowell up 2-0.

Enaire continued her offensive output for the evening, adding an insurance tally just over three minutes later, recording her 21st of the year to give the River Hawks a 3-0 lead they were able to hold onto through the end of the contest.

UMass Lowell earned 11 penalty corners, only letting up five to the Falcons.  In the second half alone, UMass Lowell held the 7-2 advantage in corners.

The River Hawks also outshot their opponents 26-7 in the tilt, including a 15-3 advantage in the second half.  NE-10 Rookie and Goalkeeper of the Week Melanie Hopkins (Harwich, Mass.) made six stops in the game, while Bentley’s Julia Powell made eight.

UMass Lowell will play its final two regular season games at home on Cushing Field, beginning with a conference game against Adelphi on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., followed by the River Hawk Senior Night on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 7:00 p.m. against the Saint Anselm Hawks.
