Davis, Dupree Pick-Up Weekly LSC Accolades

RICHARDSON, Texas - West Texas A&M Volleyball players Ashley Davis and Erika Dupree were each named Lone Star Conference Players of the Week according to a release from the league office on Tuesday.

Davis, a freshman outside hitter from Amarillo, was named the Offensive Player of Week, while Dupree, a junior setter from Mesquite, earned the Setter of the Week award.

Davis looked more like a seasoned-veteran than a true freshman this past week all the while WTAMU had a  regular-season championship on the line. She pounded out 24 kills on .391 hitting while leading the Lady Buffs to a pair of wins over ACU and ASU on the road last week. Playing in front of a massive crowd at Moody Coliseum on Thursday, nothing seemed to phase Davis as she recorded a team-high 11 kills on .450 hitting while leading the Lady Buffs to a sweep over the Wildcats. She then followed the crucial conference match with a 13-kill performance in San Angelo on Saturday, collecting seven kills in the first set, which led to the Lady Buffs downing the Rambelles in straight sets as well. The win gave WT a perfect 14-0 record in LSC play and allowed the Lady Buffs to host the upcoming LSC Volleyball Championship.
Dupree has earned the setter of the week award for a second consecutive week and sixth time overall after averaging g 9.83 assists per set this past week and dishing out a total of 59 assists in two matches over ACU and ASU. With WT running a 6-2 primary offense, Dupree still managed to average near 10 assists and lead the Lady Buffs offense to a .272 hitting percentage against two of the toughest defenses in the conference. She collected her team-leading 19th and 20th double-doubles of the season in the process as well and finished the week with 12 kills, 27 digs and having a hand in four blocks.

Both Davis and Dupree opened the season winning the same two LSC awards.

The Lady Buffs return to action in the first round of the LSC Championship this Thursday, Nov. 11, against Incarnate Word. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. inside The Box.
