DaMarcus Ganaway and Brent Holsclaw capture top GLFC honors.

28 student-athletes receive All-Great Lakes Football Conference honors

TIFFIN, Ohio (Nov. 16, 2010) – Kentucky Wesleyan wide receiver DaMarcus Ganaway captured the Great Lakes Football Conference Receiver of the Year Award and Panther head coach Brent Holsclaw was named the GLFC's Co-Coach of the Year as voted on by league coaches.

Also 24 other Panthers received All-GLFC honors.

Ganaway, a senior Indianapolis, Ind. (Ben Davis HS), led KWC in receiving with 68 receptions, 1,985 yards, scoring with 10 touchdowns and all-purpose yards with 1,371. He also was named to the honorable mention team as a return specialist where he had 22 returns for 336 yards.

Holsclaw, in his eighth season at his alma mater, posted the most wins since 1999 with five. His offensive coordinator, Jody Ashby, was named GLFC Assistant Coach of the Year. This marks the first time a KWC head coach and assistant coach have received these league honors.

Also chosen for the first team were Khalid Harris, David James, Levi Ray, Matt Wilson.

Harris, a junior defensive back from Stockbridge, Ga. (Stockbridge HS), collected 39 tackles including 31 solos and a second-best three interceptions plus seven pass breakups. James, a senior linebacker from Forestville, Md. (Oxon Hills HS), led the Panthers in tackles for loss with 12.5 and sacks with 2.5 along with a third-best 47 tackles plus a blocked kick.

Ray, a junior offensive guard from Brandenburg, Ky. (Meade County HS), started all 11 games. Wilson, a freshman kicker from Columbus, Ind. (Columbus East HS), connected on 32-of-34 extra point tries and made six-of-eight field goals for 50 points.

Selected for the second team were Sammy Bland, Justin Blosser, Corey Downing, Jasen Fairley, Darius Henderson, Caleb Ingram, Maison Kana, Sean Maguire, Chris Owen, Ken Stoklosa, Quadarius Wallace, Josh Williams and Kenneth Woodget.

Bland, a senior defensive back from Louisville (Seneca), led KWC in interceptions with four and one touchdown plus 23.5 tackles. Blosser, a sophomore defensive end from Woodstock, Ga. (Etowah HS), recorded 15.5 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack. Downing, a junior center from Louisville (North Bullitt HS), started all 11 games.

Fairley, a senior nose tackles from Collins, Miss. (), had 16.5 tackles and one tackle for loss. Henderson, a freshman running back from Evansville, Ind. (Harrison HS), led the Panthers in rushing with 456 yards on 101 carries and four touchdowns.

Ingram, a sophomore tight end from Murfreesboro, Tenn. (Lancaster Christian HS), caught one pass for eight yards. Kana, a freshman defensive end from Mason, OH (Mason HS), had 25.5 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and two sacks. Maguire, a senior punter from Louisville (DeSales HS), produced a 36.3 averaged including six over 50 yards.

Owen, a senior quarterback from Evansville, Ind. (Central HS), connected on 229 of 400 passes for 2,842 yards and 30 touchdowns. Stoklosa, a junior linebacker from Palos Hills, Ill. (St. Rita HS), had a second-best 52.5 tackles along with 10.5 tackles for loss, one sack and two interceptions.

Wallace, a junior defensive back from Collins, Miss. (Collins HS), led the Panthers in tackles with 58.5 and second in tackles for loss with 11 plus two interceptions and one sack. Williams, a junior offensive tackle from Jackson, Miss. (Lanier HS), started 10 of 11 games.

Woodget, a freshman offensive tackle from Detroit, Mich. (Highland Park HS), started 10 of 11 games.

Receiving honorable mention recognition were Derek Brown, Joey Galmiche, Ganaway, Vincent Lalonde, Eric Mayfield, Chuck Palonis, Eric Rhodes and David Smith.

Brown, a junior wide receiver from Cincinnati, Ohio (Winton Woods HS) caught 34 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Joey Galmiche, a freshman offensive guard from Daphne, Ala. (Daphne HS), played in seven games with five starts.

Lalonde, a senior wide receiver from Royal Palm Beach, Fla. (Royal Palm Beach HS), caught 39 passes for 635 yards and nine touchdowns.  He also was recognized as a return specialist by returning five punts and 10 kickoffs. Mayfield, a senior return specialist from Gardena, Calif. (Serra HS) recorded 21 punt/kick returns for 227 yards.

Palonis, a senior offensive tackles from Chicago, Ill. (Mount Carmel HS) started all 11 games. Rhodes, a junior defensive back from Louisville (Butler HS), had 23 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one interception. Smith, a senior wide receiver from Jersey City, NJ (James Ferris HS), collected a second-best 55 passes for 703 yards and five touchdowns.

Six Panthers were also named to the GLFC All-Academic team. They are sophomore quarterback Will Barnes from Princeton, Ky. (Caldwell County HS); freshman offensive lineman Kaleb Enix from Louisville (Eastern HS); Ingram, sophomore wide receiver Joey Kramer from Owensboro (Daviess County HS); Owen and Wilson.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2.
