INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team will travel to Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday, Nov. 18, to compete in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II West Region Championship.
The Seasiders (16-7), who shared the PacWest Championship with Hawai‘i Hilo, claimed the automatic qualifier after sweeping the season series vs. the Vulcans this year.
As the eighth seed, the Seasiders will battle #6 in the nation and West Region top seed Cal State San Bernardino at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Coyotes (25-2) claimed the right to host the eight-team bracket after putting together a spectacular season that featured a California Collegiate Athletic Association title.
Cal State San Bernardino is unbeaten at home this year.
The winner of the match between the Seasiders and the Coyotes will face either fourth-seed UC San Diego (18-8) or fifth-seed Sonoma State (17-9) in the second round on Friday.
The flipside of the West Region bracket features second-seed Seattle Pacific (24-2) vs. seventh-seeded Cal State Los Angeles (16-10) and third-seed Western Washington (19-3) battling sixth-seeded Alaska-Anchorage (18-8).
BYU-Hawaii has faced two of the teams in the West Region bracket this season, losing to Sonoma State 3-1 and to Seattle Pacific 3-0 in early September.
The NCAA II National Championship Tournament features a 64-team field broken down into eight regions of eight teams. The eight regional champions will converge on Louisville, KY, Dec. 2-4 to determine the national champion.
