LSC releases cross country postseason awards
RICHARDSON, TEXAS — The Lone Star Conference released their 2010 cross country awards on Friday afternoon, with Eastern New Mexico University head cross country coach Eric Boll being selected as the LSC Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. The Greyhounds are currently ranked fourth in the USTFCCCA Division II South Central Region.
Boll’s selection marks the first time an ENMU coach has earned LSC honors since Dan Buzard was chosen as the LSC South Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year, following the 2003-04 season.
Under Boll’s guidance, the ENMU men’s cross country team finished first or second in all six of their meets this season, including placing second at the LSC Championships, held in Abilene, Texas. Individually, the Hounds had 11 new entries into their top 21 times for an 8k run. Both the men and women’s teams surpassed their predicted finishes, as the Hounds were picked to finish third, while the Zias were picked ninth.
Junior Mohamed Noor (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston HS/Garden City CC) became the Hounds’ first all-conference performer since Nimrod Lelei, during the 2006 season. Noor took second at the LSC Championships, with his time of 24:28.86, going down as Eastern’s only sub 25-minute time in the 8k run.
Nicole Reid (Jr., Pueblo, Colo./East HS) took fourth at the LSC Championships, becoming the first Zia to make All-Lone Star Conference since Karissa Huskey at the 2003 championship meet.
The Eastern New Mexico University cross country teams will return to action next Saturday, when they compete in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships. The meet will be hosted by University Central Missouri, in Warrensburg, MO.
