BLOOMSBURG—Amanda Riley (Tannersville, Pocono Mountain East) scored two goals and assisted on one other to lead the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 4-3 win over Mansfield University in the semi-finals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Hockey championships.

In the other semi-final game, East Stroudsburg upset previously unbeaten Shippensburg by a score of 2-1. The Huskies will face the Warriors at 1 p.m. on Saturday for the PSAC championship at Bloomsburg.

Bloomsburg controlled the action in the early going, but it was Mansfield broke out on top first in the game when Kylie Davis scored off a Talena Truitt assist on a penalty corner just 3:09 into the game. The Huskies came back and tied the game just over six minutes later when Ashley Miller (Shermans Dale, West Perry) took a Betsy Renn (Herndon, Line Mountain) pass and hit the left corner of the goal on a penalty corner.

It take didn’t long for Bloomsburg to go in front for the first time as Riley scored her 17th goal of the season with 10:39 gone in the opening half. The Huskies continued to control the action getting three corner opportunities and seven shots, but could not score and the half ended with BU on top 2-1.

The start of the second half began much like the first half with Mansfield coming out on fire and getting the tying goal on its first shot of the period. Kristy Tutorow scored with Sarah Zwick getting an assist.

Bloomsburg took control of the flow of the game and regained the lead for good when Riley scored her second goal of the game with Ashley Miller (Shermans Dale, West Perry)getting an assist at the 48:59 mark. The Huskies stretched the lead to 4-2 when Jenna DiSabatino (Mountain Top, Crestwood) scored on a shot from five yards out off a Riley assist in the 54th minute.

The Mounties though came right back and went down the field and closed on the gap when Kristyn Grunza scored in the 55th minute making it 4-3.

Over the next nine minutes the Huskies got off six shots, but could not score leaving the Mounties within one goal as time ticked down. Then with under a minute and a half to play Mansfield had one last chance to score on a penalty corner, but the shot by Brianna Velepec for Mansfield was saved by BU goalie Meghan Hollenbach (Blandon, Fleetwood) and the Huskies went on to run out the rest of the clock.

Bloomsburg goes to 17-2 on the year, while Mansfield ends at 6-15.

In the other semi-final game East Stroudsburg upended Division II’s top-ranked team 2-1. The Warriors scored on their first shot of the game and just one of two first half attempts when Jessica Frantz scored at the 9:31 mark. Shippensburg dominated play in the opening half getting off six shots and five corners, but could not score.

In the second half the Warriors made it 2-0 when Joanna Reckley scored off an Amanda McGuire assist on a corner play at the 52:23 mark. From there the ESU defense continually broke up the scoring opportunities for the Lady Raiders. Shippensburg finally got on the board in the 67th minute when Ber White scored on a penalty stroke making it a 2-1 game.

There was some drama at the end of the game when Shippensburg picked up two penalty corners with no time on the clock, but on the second one the Lady Raiders were not able to cleanly stop the pass ending the play and the game.

East Stroudsburg is now 17-4, while Shippensburg falls to 20-1.
