Bentley Men Finish 5th in NCAA Regional; Farley #1 Runner for Falcons

BOSTON, Mass. -- With sophomores comprising four of its top runners, the Bentley University men’s cross country team finished fifth out of 26 teams in the NCAA Division II East Regional Sunday at Franklin Park.
              
Bentley, with a score of 134 in Ed Lyons’ final meet of his 19 years as the team’s head coach, trailed four Northeast-10 Conference rivals in the standings. UMass-Lowell won the regional with a score of 41, and Stonehill (72), Southern Connecticut (121) and American International (130) completed the top four.
              
Sophomore Teddy Farley (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) had the best race of his career to lead the Falcons, placing 17th with a time of 32:07 over the 10,000-meter course. Curtis Trueb (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester HS) and Rob Dextradeur (Branford, Conn./Branford HS), also sophomores, were the next two Bentley runners across the finish line, placing 25th and 27th, with times of 32:35 and 32:38, respectively.
              
Bentley’s top five also included senior Steve Gendron (Lowell/Lowell HS) in 29th (32:43) and sophomore John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) in 36th (32:57). Right on their heels were sophomore Craig Robinson (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough HS) and senior Sean Reagan (Marcellus, N.Y./ Marcellus HS), in 37th and 39th respectively, as the Falcons were the only team to place seven in the top 40.
              
UMass-Lowell’s John Veiga ran to the individual championship, with his time of 30:08 giving him a 20-second margin of victory over Glarius Rop of AIC.
