Back to Work Monday for UIS

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois-Springfield men’s basketball team will play its third game against a GLIAC school Monday evening. The Prairie Stars will welcome Midwest Region foe Hillsdale to the TRAC for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

UIS won a pair of thrillers over the weekend in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge with victories over Lake Superior State and Northwood. The Prairie Stars defeated LSSU on a last second shot by senior Brandon Farmer and then sophomore Chigozie Umeadi hit a free throw with just over two seconds left to move past NU.

Umeadi leads the Prairie Stars in scoring and rebounding with 19.5 points and 8 boards. Junior Lester Hart and sophomore Ryan Thornton also are scoring in double figures, as they come in at 13 and 12.5 points per game respectively.

Hillsdale, who was predicted to finish second the GLIAC South Division behind Findlay, won its opener Friday against Ohio State-Newark. The Chargers have size on their roster, as they have four who stand over 6’7”.

Leading Hillsdale in its opening bout was Nick Washburn, who scored 15 points, while Brad Guinane chipped in with 14 and a team-best six rebounds.

Following the action against the Chargers, UIS will play host to Robert Morris-Springfield Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Live stats will be available for viewing at http://www.sidearmstats.com/uis/mbball.
