Oswalt has season-high five kills in loss to Montreat

Tornados fall in three sets to visiting Cavaliers

Brevard, N.C. - Ashlie Morrison and Joy Oswalt led the BC offensive effort in Tuesday’s match against Montreat, but the Tornados were unable to overcome the visiting Cavaliers as Allison Baumgartner led the way with 10 kills as Montreat defeated Brevard in Boshamer Gymnasium, 25-19, 25-15, 25-23.

Brevard (3-23) was led by Morrison as the junior outside hitter had a team-high seven kills in the match, while Oswalt had a season-high five kills in the match. Bethany Stevenson set up the Brevard offensive effort with 21 set assists, while adding a service ace. Erin Rollins and Sydney Yeomans also had service aces for the Tornados as Brevard fell for the second time in the season against the Cavaliers.

Rebecca Schoonover led the BC defense with nine digs, while Yeomans added six and Atkinson had five. Ashley Wilson and Atkinson both had two total blocks in the match to lead Brevard at the net.

Baumgarter’s 10 kills led all players as Montreat (25-9) hit 18.2 percent from the floor in the match. Ellen Goodman and Hattie Lewis both contributed seven kills apiece in the victory, while Melissa Mueller and Natalie Nieman combined for 21 set assists. Goodman also led Montreat with a match-high 14 digs, while Anna Stephenson had two blocks in the match as the Cavaliers won their fifth consecutive match.

The Tornados remain home as they jump back into South Atlantic Conference play on Friday, November 5th, as they host Carson-Newman College. First serve between the Tornados and the Eagles is set for 5 p.m.
