Dec. 11– LEXINGTON, Ky. - As it was in 2007 it is again in 2010 as Head Coach Brady Starkey has been named the AVCA Division II Coach of the Year of Friday night. Starkey guided the Golden Bears to their fourth consecutive National Title in a year he needed to replace three first team AVCA All-Americans and a fourth starter due to injury. He took a team that started 5-3 out of the gate and led them to 27 victories in their last 28 matches including 22 straight to end the season.
In his nine years at CU, Starkey has guided the Golden Bears to nine straight NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances, six trips to the NCAA Elite Eight, five trips to the National Title game and four National Titles. He also has won the NSIC conference title nine times. He has an overall record of 272-24 and a 138-2 record in NSIC matches. Against the NCAA Top-25 he is a remarkable 91-19.
As head coach Starkey has coached 28 AVCA All-Americans and 20 Daktronics All-Americans. He has been named the Regional Coach of the Year by the AVCA six times the NSIC coach of the year five times. He has coach three National Freshman of the Year and two National Player of the Year award winners.
In post season play he as racked up a 31-4 record in the NCAA Regional's and a 14-2 record in the NCAA Elite Eight. He has guided the Golden Bears to 24 straight NCAA wins and his team holds the NCAA record with 75 straight matches won.
