Mars Hill Loses Exhibition at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Sophomore Sophia Aleksandravicius (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) tallied a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Davidson women零 basketball team to an 84-58 exhibition win on Sunday afternoon vs. Mars Hill in John M. Belk Arena.

Aleksandravicius, who recorded 11 double-doubles last season, finished 7-of-14 from the field and hauled in six of her 13 rebounds on the offensive side. She also pocketed four of the OCats eight steals, dished out three assists and swatted away a pair of Lion shots.

She scored 10 of her 16 points in the second half when Davidson pulled away, pushing its lead out to as many as 26 points twice in cruising to the win.

Senior Ashley Lax (Little Rock, Ark.) and sophomore Barabara Sitton (Richmond, Va.) each poured in 15 and 11 points, respectively, to join Aleksandravicius in double digits. Overall, nine Wildcats etched their names in the scorer零 book with at least four points.

Freshman Laura Murray (Harrisburg, Pa.) had a strong debut, dropping in nine points, pulling down 11 rebounds and dishing out four assists. Davidson as a team showed its unselfishness, picking up assists on 22 of its 32 field goals, with seven players dishing out at least two assists on the afternoon.

Mars Hill's Margaret Harvey (13) and Tyler Carlson (11) each reached double figures, while Jocelyn Williams hauled in 10 rebounds to pace the Lions.

Davidson opened up a 22-8 lead on a Logan Hartman (New Wilmington, Pa.) jumper at the 11:43 mark in the first half, but saw the Lions chip away and cut the lead down to two on a 14-2 run. The three-ball aided Mars Hills during the run as it drained three during the spurt.

With the Wildcats leading 31-29, Sitton canned a three-pointer that started a 12-3 run to close out the first half and give Davidson a commanding 43-32 advantage.

Davidson defense held Mars Hill to 29 percent shooting, forced 19 turnovers and out-rebounded the Lions, 61-46. Of those 61 boards, 21 of them came off the offensive glass.
