Selkridge, Vanderhall Power UT over Saint Leo

TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 3 University of Tampa Spartans volleyball team upended the Saint Leo University Lions in straight sets on Tuesday night in the Bob Martinez Sports Center. The Spartans improve to 22-3 and 11-1 in Sunshine State Conference play with their 12th consecutive victory while the Lions fall to 12-13 and 7-7.

Both Danielle Selkridge and Melissa Vanderhall tallied 11 kills and two blocks, as Selkridge at swung at a .688 clip. Neither player committed an error on the night en route to a crucial SSC win heading into the final few weeks of play.

In the first set, UT coasted on a rally behind the serve of senior setter Meghan Sherman who got her team out to a 6-0 lead. Vanderhall led the attack, contributing seven kills in 11 attempts as Tampa went on to win 25-18.

The second frame was Selkridge's time to shine, grounding six kills in seven attempts on the way to another 25-18 victory.

The final set, middle hitter Sam Macks notched three kills in three attempts and ended the contest with seven kills on a .583 attack percentage. Macks ranks second in the nation in attack percentage with a .451 clip. The Spartans shut the door on the Lions in the third, ending the match with a 25-19 triumph.

Libero Julie Howlett added 15 digs while Macks blocked four Saint Leo attacks to anchor the defense. Sherman ended the night with 36 assists, three short of the 1000 season mark.
