The Grizzlies second season came to a close on Sunday as they were in Durango taking on defending national champion Fort Lewis. ASC lost, 3-0, to the Skyhawks, but made a three-goal improvement over the previous match, having fallen 6-0 against Fort Lewis at Murphy Field earlier in the season.
Adams State also met up against currently No. 3-ranked Colorado Mines on Friday in the final men's soccer match of the fall at Murphy Field. Prior to the start of the match, the Grizzlies took a moment to recognize its seniors, including captains David Powers (Fairbanks, Alaska) and Tyler Corbin (Mancos, Colo.), as well as Beverly Hottor (Koforidua, Ghana), Diego Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Bruno Falcao (Joao Pessao, Brazil). Adams State also took a moment to recognize the parents of the men's program during the short pre-game presentation.
Once the match got underway, the Grizzlies played the RMAC leaders tough, trailing the Orediggers by just one goal at halftime. Colorado Mines would end the contest with 5-0 victory over the Grizzlies, but it was a marked improvement of ASC's previous match with the Orediggers, a 10-0 loss on the road.
Freshman keeper Dillon Lee (Arvada, Colo.) made 18 saves over the weekend, raising his season total to 98 and moving into the top spot on the young program's season and career saves list. The previous mark, set in 2009, was 97.
Lee finished the season ranked second in the RMAC in saves, and fellow rookie keeper Paul Pizza was fifth amongst league netminders with 57 saves. As a team, Adams State capped off the season ranked second in saves with 161.
