Merrimack Field Hockey Downed 2-0 by No. 6 Stonehill

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- The Merrimack field hockey team fell 2-0 to No. 6 Stonehill Tuesday evening at Warrior Field. The Warriors are now 6-10 overall and 3-6 in the Northeast-10 after the loss. The Skyhawks pulled their overall record to 12-5 on the year with an 8-1 mark in the league with the win.

The visiting team struck first as Kathryn Nelson found the back of the net in the 24th minute. Stonehill held onto the 1-0 lead at the break.

Nelson put the Skyhawks up two goals on her 17th score of the year. With three minutes remaining in the game.

Stonehill owned a 23-11 advantage in shots while holding a 10-7 lead in penalty corners. Jamie Spano (Reading, Mass.) paced the home team with five shots in the game.

Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, Mass.) turned aside 14 shots in the match for the Warriors. Courtney Osier made five saves for the Skyhawks on the day.

“Our team played hard today against a very good opponent,” said head coach Anne Rounce. “We had our chances to score but could not put the ball in the goal.”

Merrimack will honor its three seniors before the next match. The Warriors next game will take place November 6 as they host St. Anselm in the final conference tilt of the season.
