Washburn 74, Northwest Missouri State 67

TOPEKA, Kan. — Logan Stutz scored a game-high 25 points to lead Washburn to a 74-67 win against Northwest Missouri State Saturday night at Lee Arena.

The Ichabods (5-1, 2-0 MIAA) surrendered a seven-point, halftime lead and trailed 55-52 with eight minutes remaining before rallying to win. Washburn committed just six turnovers, including one in the second half, and made 22-of-30 free throws.

Elijah Allen led Northwest (2-4, 0-2) with 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to earn his seventh collegiate double-double. Shaneel Narayan and Kyle Haake combined to make seven of the Bearcats’ season-high nine three-pointers. Narayan had 14 points, Haake finished with 13 and point guard DeShaun Cooper added 14 points and six assists.

Washburn used a 15-0 run to turn an early 15-9 deficit into a nine-point advantage. Bobby Chipman scored the first five points to start the rally and Stutz scored eight of the final 10. Stutz was 4-for-4 from the field, 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and had 14 points in the first half.

Five straight points from Tyler Funk helped give Northwest a 48-47 lead eight minutes into the second half. Northwest pushed the lead to three points twice in the final frame, but a layup by Stutz with six minutes to go gave Washburn a 56-55 advantage. Nate Daniels pushed the lead to four on the ensuing possession with one of Washburn’s six three-pointers and the Ichabods never trailed the rest of the way.

Stutz finished 8-of-10 from the field and 9-of-10 from the line. De’Andre Washington had 17 points and Daniels chipped in 10 for the Ichabods.
