Bentley Men Finish 1st Session of NE-10 Invitational in Third Place

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Led by seniors Egen Ouellette (West Hartford, Conn./Conant HS) and Mike Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS), the Bentley University men’s swimming team stands in third place after the opening session of the 2010 Northeast-10 Invitational, held Saturday night at the Dana Center pool.
              
Bentley, with 148 points, trails Pace University (168) and Southern Connecticut State (151) in the team standings. The College of Saint Rose was fourth with 135, and St. Michael’s College completed the five-team field with 76 points.
              
Ouellette helped Bentley to its only win of that night, combining with sophomore George Go (Manila, Philippines) and freshmen Philip Chan (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier HS) and Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) to take the 200 freestyle relay in 1:28.42.
              
Ouellette finished second in the 50 freestyle (22.31), with Sylvia placing fourth in the same event with a time of 22.69 seconds. Walsh took second in the one-meter diving, registering a score of 223.90.
              
Bentley’s only third of the opening session came in the 400 medley relay, with Chan, Go, Sylvia and sophomore Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) posting a time of 3:46.87.
              
The invitational concludes on Sunday with a morning session at 9 am and an afternoon one at 3 pm.
