UMSL Women's Basketball Hangs on for 63-58 Win at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, TENN. , December 8, 2010 - Junior Caitlyn Moody posted her first double-double of the season, netting 17 points and snagging 13 rebounds, helping the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team to a 63-58 victory at Christian Brothers University Wednesday night in non-conference action.

The win snapped a four-game losing skid for the Tritons, who improve to 4-4 overall. The Bucs fall to 4-4.

Despite a 17-point lead late the in game, UMSL had to fight for the win, holding off a late Christian Brothers rally. Senior Kelly Mitchell scored on a layup with 7:39 to play, giving the Tritons a 55-38 lead, but Christian Brothers would follow with a 12-1 run, pulling within 56-50 at the four-minute mark. The Bucs then cut it to 61-58 on a three-point bucket with 24 seconds to play, but would get no closer.

Moody added a team-best four assists to her stat line, while Mitchell and fellow senior Kelcy Hulbert each finished with 13 points. Mitchell also collected three steals and had four rebounds.

The Tritons took a 34-22 lead into halftime after racing out to an 11-2 lead in the game's first six minutes and finished the game shooting 40.7 percent and held a 43-28 rebounding advantage.

Defensively, the Tritons held Christian Brothers to 33.3 percent shooting.

UMSL returns to action next Saturday, traveling to Quincy for a non-conference contest.
