Prairie Stars Defense Strong

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – It was the third double-double of the season for senior Paulina Pogorzelski, who scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but it was Oakland City with the 75-67 victory over the Illinois-Springfield women’s basketball team Tuesday night.

The cold shooting continued to hamper UIS, as they shot just 27 percent from the field, while OCU hit 48 percent of its shots during the opening half. The defensive pressure by UIS did cause issues for OCU’s offense forcing 14 turnovers.

In the second half, UIS was able to grab a two point (54-52), but OCU went on a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach. The Prairie Stars were able to bring the game back within six with 2:34 to play, but OCU scored enough to get the win.

For the game, freshman Alyssa Palmer had another career-high in scoring, as she finished with 15 points, while classmate Megan Bergerud and junior Cristina Nevins closed the evening with 12 and 10 respectively.

As a team, UIS finished with a 35 percent shooting effort from the floor, while OCU hit 45 percent of its shots. The Prairie Stars forced OCU into 26 turnovers, while UIS just committed 18 miscues.

UIS’ next action is Saturday, Dec. 18 when it hosts Eureka at 1 p.m. in the TRAC.
